Compass Navigation & GPS Course Level 2

Training objectives

  • Increase knowledge of the techniques needed to be able to orient and navigate in any type of environment and in any situation.

Training contents

Introduction:

To move safely in nature and in any kind of condition; whether in the forest, high peaks, desert, jungle or the incredible landscapes of the arctic, orientation and navigation are a basic tool.

Once you have acquired the basic knowledge of level one, a world of possibilities now opens up. New techniques, new skills to train and others learned at level I that need to be further developed and enhanced.

This course aims to teach the orientation and navigation techniques necessary for the student to be able to navigate competently and safely in any environment and in any condition.

Contents and activities:

  • The Military Grid Reference System
  • The British and American Coordinate System
  • Review: Geographic North, Magnetic North, Grid North, Magnetic Declination. Directions: Course and Azimuth.
  • Baselines
  • Visual estimation of distances
  • The parallax errors
  • The Navigation Logbook
  • Navigation in bad weather
  • Navigation in the forest
  • Navigation in the high mountains
  • Night navigation
  • Looking for the way … (the Wheel)

Audience:

People who have completed level I or who have the equivalent knowledge.

Location:

The location can be adapted, according to the group’s preferences, to the most favorable weather and terrain conditions.

The program may change depending on weather conditions and the environment. The activities can then be adapted, always with the aim of satisfying the contents and objectives of the course.

Activity scheduled in the calendar. Also open on demand. This training can be adapted to the needs of the group.

Requisitos para realizar el curso:
  • Physical conditions: to be able to do two days walking, with a positive difference of 1500 m and a route of about 15 km per day.
  • Respect the natural environment in which we will develop the activity, often natural parks with their own legislation that we must comply with.
